Investing in Our Community

When you attend a Propeller Club event, you’re not just networking, you’re giving back.

At the Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk, we believe our work should reach beyond the waterfront. Every event we host helps raise funds that support programs and organizations making a difference right here in Hampton Roads. Together, our members are helping to educate, empower, and inspire the next generation of maritime leaders.

Old Dominion University Student Propeller Club

One of our core missions is to cultivate future talent in the maritime industry.

We proudly support the Old Dominion University Student Propeller Club, helping fund their programming and professional development opportunities.

We also offer two annual scholarships:

  • The Rolf Williams Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • The Propeller Club of Norfolk U.S. Merchant Mariner Endowed Scholarship

Sea Cadets – Top Hatters Squadron

We are also proud to support the Sea Cadets – Top Hatter Squadron, a youth leadership program based at Naval Station Norfolk. The Top Hatter Squadron provides youth ages 10–18 with hands-on experience rooted in maritime tradition and service.

Sail Nauticus

Through the Judy Barrett Fund, we support Sail Nauticus, a community sailing and educational program operated by the Nauticus Foundation. Serving students from across Hampton Roads, Sail Nauticus blends STEM learning and leadership development with hands-on sailing, introducing young people to the opportunities and excitement of maritime careers.

Giving Where It Matters Most

One of the most meaningful aspects of being a Propeller Club member is having a voice in how we give back.

Each year, members can nominate nonprofit organizations to receive donations through our charitable giving program. These gifts are made possible by funds raised at our events, and they reflect the values and passions of our membership.

From youth programs to maritime preservation and local education to health initiatives, we’re proud to support causes that make a real impact in Hampton Roads. Our list of beneficiaries evolves year to year, because the needs of our community do too.
